The Grimsel Pass (2165m)

The Grimsel Pass is a historic trail that captivates with its impressive alpine panoramas. It connects Innertkirchen in the Canton of Bern to Gletsch in the Canton of Valais. The pass road leads past three reservoirs: The Räterichsbodensee, the Grimselsee and the Totensee at the top of the pass. The area is one of the most mineral-rich regions in the Alps.

The pass road winds from Innertkirchen through barren granite landscapes up to the top of the pass.

The Historic Alpine Hotel Grimsel Hospiz is located on the route to the  on the edge of the Bernese Oberland. With the hospice cable car you float over the Spitallamm dam down to the Grimsel 1 power plant. At the top of the pass you will discover the small Totesee where restaurants offer catering with a fantastic view.

The Grimsel is generally open from June to October. As alpine passes remain highly subject to weather conditions and can experience temporary closures, especially late in the year before their winter closure. Before traveling, always verify real-time conditions using the www.alpen-paesse.ch

Tip: On the top the hotel “Grimsel Passhöhe” https://hotel-grimselpass.ch offers great accommodation. If you are a sunset and sunrise photographer this is the place to be.
